One of the great blessings of the Internet - real time (or nearly real time) posts. No longer are we waiting to see the newspaper tomorrow morning, or even 6 o'clock news tonight. Virtually someone in the world is writing something about the topic you are interested in, at this very moment.
One of the most important ways to find relevant articles and resources today is social bookmarking. The great thing about social bookmarking is that you can tag your bookmarks by keywords, or topics, so that they can be easily sorted later. Another great reason to use social bookmarking is right there in it's name - it's SOCIAL! You can share your tags with friends, and they can use them just as easily as you do! Common Craft created a user-friendly instructional video that describes this new method of saving websites.
For college students, digital resources are even more beneficial. The New Media Driver's License class at Michigan State University uses a class website that allows students to add public resources weekly that might benefit the other members of the class. These are also tagged, so they can be sorted for later reference. So if I decided to write another article about Search Engine Optimization, I could click the "SEO" tag, and voila! I have at least 32 resources at my fingertips.
And when it comes to real-time, I could not go without mentioning Twitter. While older mediums made you merely the reader, now sites like Twitter allow you to be a participant. Almost as instantly as something is posted online, someone is tweeting about it. Twitter is the epitome of real-time.
So whether you are curious about the upcoming election, or just browsing a topic for a blog, social bookmarking and social media allows you access to millions of resources online. Now it's your job to discover which topic you're looking for.
