Server Security

By Elisha Marty

Servers support huge networks of computers. There are servers that host websites and there are servers to run processes and servers to store data. Servers act as basic units for huge office networks in large organizations. The magnitude of dependency calls for a tight security arrangement for safe guarding proper functioning of large organizations.

Web applications that are developed for development and testing procedures allow less restrictions and because of this it allows unauthenticated users to access the server and put the question of security at risk. The introduction of malicious software to your server may cause harm to the user's file, backend data, and also the database of website to manipulate in such a way that the database will no longer be able to serve the required data.

Extensive use of the internet means an increase in the threat to security systems of the servers that have confidential data. Several kinds of potential threats need to be addressed when designing a security system. The potential threats are threats from hackers, threats of virus attacks with the security disruption, and threats of manipulation of sensitive information.

Web servers are one of the most targeted public faces of an organization, because of the sensitivity of data that they usually host. Web server security has the same importance as the web site security or web application security itself and the network around it. As insecure web server or web application puts anyone's business at a huge risk.

The major problem about server security is not only to ensure optimum security through server security management systems, but it's all about external threats, in front of which, our server is always vulnerable in such a way, that a well configured systems can't get rid of this. UNIX operating systems are in the top of all others in comparison. Security issues are not well defined yet as new risks are generated almost every single moment. It seems to be unpredictable that which means of security measures you can take, as at very next moment that could become obsolete in front of new threat.
